The library is the one place the school still runs on a register.
Why we're building it
Most school libraries are still a ledger book and a librarian's memory: a card slipped into a pocket, a date stamped by hand, a fine that becomes a coin in a tin if it is collected at all. The catalogue lives in the librarian's head, so a student cannot tell from their desk whether the one copy of a set text is on the shelf. We're building a library that is part of the platform rather than apart from it — where availability is a search, a loan is a scan, and a late book is a line on the same fee ledger the parent already knows. It is not built yet; this page is the spec, and the screen above is the target we are building toward.

The catalogue (OPAC)
A searchable public catalogue is designed to let a student or teacher find a title by name, author, subject or shelf — and see, at a glance, whether a copy is on the shelf right now or out on loan.

Copies & availability
Each title will hold many physical copies, every copy its own accession number and condition — so the record shows three on the shelf, one out and one in repair, not a single ambiguous count.

Issue & return
We're building circulation as the heart of it: issue a copy to a borrower, set a due date by membership rule, accept the return and free the copy — each step a single, logged action at the desk.

Due dates & renewals
Loan periods, holds and renewals are designed to follow per-membership rules — a teacher keeps a reference longer than a junior keeps a reader — with overdue status surfaced before it becomes a fine.

Fines to the fee ledger
Overdue fines will not live in a separate cash drawer. They are designed to post as a charge on the same student ledger as tuition, so a parent settles a late book exactly where they settle the fees.

Barcode & RFID scanning
The desk is designed for a scanner, not a keyboard: a barcode or RFID tag identifies a copy and a member card identifies a borrower, so issue and return are a beep apart, and stock-takes a walk down the aisle.

Reading-list tie-ins
Curriculum reading lists are designed to link to real catalogue records, so a recommended title carries its live availability — and a teacher can see which set texts the shelves can actually supply this term.

Members & history
Every student and staff member is designed to carry a borrowing record — what they hold now, what they have read, what they owe — drawn from the people already on the platform, with no second roster to keep.

Scoped by campus and session from the start. Like every other module, a copy will belong to a campus and a loan to an academic session — so a multi-campus trust keeps each library its own, and last year's overdues stay last year's.

One ledger, not a second cash drawer. A fine is designed to post to the same student fee ledger as tuition — visible to the parent, collectable through the channels already in place, never a slip of paper in a drawer by the door.

Borrowers are the people already here. Members will be drawn from the students and staff the school already holds — no second roster, no re-typed names — so a new admission carries a library card the day it joins.

On web, iOS and Android — and within Sol's reach. The desk runs on the web; a student checks an availability from a phone; and Sol, the AI agent, is designed to answer 'is this title in' across the same data — not a fourth tool to learn.
